One of the more satisfying progression goals in Forza Horizon 6 is reaching the highest promotion level in a Horizon Job storyline. If you are trying to unlock “The Boss” achievement, you will need to fully max out the progression for at least one Job from start to finish.
At first, the system can feel a little confusing because simply completing chapters is not enough. The game rewards efficiency, clean driving, and high star ratings. After spending time replaying several Job chapters myself, I found that getting maximum promotion is mostly about consistency and knowing where the game expects you to optimize your runs.
Here are the best ways to reach maximum promotion faster without wasting time grinding unnecessary races.
Focus on One Job Storyline First
The biggest mistake many players make is jumping between multiple Horizon Jobs too early.
If your goal is specifically to unlock “The Boss” achievement, it is much faster to fully complete a single Job business storyline before moving to another one. Every Job has its own progression track, and promotion only increases when you improve results inside that specific storyline.
Pick one Job you enjoy and stick with it until every chapter is fully completed with top ratings.
Some Jobs are easier than others depending on your driving style. Delivery and street-driving missions usually feel more forgiving than precision stunt-focused chapters.
Replay Chapters Until You Earn 3 Stars
The most important part of promotion progression is your chapter star rating.
Every mission in a Horizon Job can reward up to 3 Stars, and those stars directly affect how quickly you rank up your promotion level. Finishing a chapter with only 1 or 2 Stars technically counts as completion, but it slows your overall progression a lot.
If you miss the 3-Star requirement:
  • Replay the chapter immediately
  • Check the target requirement carefully
  • Adjust your route or driving style
  • Retry until you hit the maximum rating
Most of the time, the difference between 2 Stars and 3 Stars is just a cleaner run or a slightly faster route.
I noticed that replaying missions right away works better than coming back later because the mission layout is still fresh in your mind.
Learn the Chapter Requirements Before Driving
A lot of players fail 3-Star objectives simply because they start driving immediately without checking the actual challenge conditions.
Some missions focus on:
  • Average speed
  • Skill score
  • Drift points
  • Delivery time
  • Clean driving
  • Near misses
The strategy changes depending on the mission type.
For example, if the chapter requires a large Skill Score, driving aggressively and chaining drifts matters more than finishing quickly. On the other hand, timed delivery missions usually reward cutting distance wherever possible.
Before every chapter starts, take a few seconds to read the requirements carefully.
Keep Your Skill Chain Alive
Several Job chapters heavily depend on Skill Chain scoring.
In these missions, maintaining your combo matters much more than driving perfectly. You should constantly combine small actions together instead of focusing on a single big stunt.
Good ways to build Skill Chains include:
  • Drifting around corners
  • Near misses with traffic
  • Air jumps
  • Wreckage bonuses
  • Speed skills
  • Clean racing sections
The main thing to avoid is crashing into heavy objects or stopping suddenly. Losing your combo halfway through a run can instantly ruin your score target.
Sometimes it is smarter to drive slightly slower if it helps protect your multiplier.
Ignore the GPS Sometimes
One thing I learned quickly in Horizon Jobs is that the GPS route is not always the fastest route.
The navigation system usually prefers safe roads, but many 3-Star objectives are much easier if you cut across open terrain or use side streets.
Before the timer begins:
  • Open the map
  • Look for shortcuts
  • Check for straight-line routes
  • Identify off-road cut-throughs
  • Avoid long highway curves
In several timed chapters, shaving even five seconds off your route can make the difference between 2 Stars and 3 Stars.
Japan’s map design in Forza Horizon 6 includes lots of narrow roads, alleyways, mountain shortcuts, and open areas that reward experimentation.
Turn Off Some Driving Assists
This step is optional, but it helps if you want faster overall progression rewards.
Higher difficulty settings increase XP and credit payouts, which helps speed up your broader campaign progress while you work on Job promotions.
You do not need to make the game impossibly difficult, but disabling a few assists can help:
  • Traction Control
  • Stability Control
  • Braking Assist
  • Full Racing Line
Even switching to a partial manual setup can improve your acceleration control in some missions.
That said, if removing assists causes you to fail objectives consistently, it is better to keep them enabled. Clean 3-Star clears are still more important than bonus XP.
Use Rewinds Strategically
Rewind is extremely useful during Job chapters, especially for difficult 3-Star attempts.
Instead of restarting an entire mission because of one mistake:
  • Rewind small crashes
  • Fix missed checkpoints
  • Recover broken Skill Chains
  • Retry risky shortcuts
Using Rewind smartly saves a huge amount of time while grinding promotion levels.
Some players avoid using it, but honestly, Horizon Jobs are designed around experimentation. The feature exists for a reason.
