Rueben Bain, the Miami standout who is projected to hear his name called early in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, was the driver in a fatal car crash that took place in Miami in March 2024,according to NFL teams are reportedly aware of the incident, with many believed to consider the matter closed. It's unclear if the wreck, which left one pa senger in Bain's vehicle dead, will impact his draft stock. Here's what we know so far about Bain's car crash. Rueben Bain car crash details Jared Spurgeon Jersey On March 17, 2024, Bain -- then a sophomore with the Hurricanes -- was driving a 2021 Land Rover on Interstate 95 in Miami at 4 a.m. ET. According to Connolly, Bain's vehicle --- registered to corporation Miami Sports 27 -- struck another car before colliding into concrete barriers located on the side of the highway. One pa senger in Bain's vehicle -- 22-year-old Destiny Betts -- was knocked unconscious as a result of injuries. She never regained consciousne s, succumbing to her injuries on June 13, 2024. Betts' family i sued the following statement regarding Bain's involvement in the wreck. We received your request regarding a potential article about our daughter, Destiny Betts. As her family, we remain deeply committed to honoring her memory in a meaningful and appropriate way. Destinys pa sing was the result of a tragic accident that occurred several years ago. While the lo s remains incredibly painful for our family, we have worked hard to find peace and move forward. At this time, we are not seeking public attention surrounding this tragedy and respectfully request that our familys privacy be honored. We also wish Mr. Bain the best as he continues his life and career. A second pa senger was injured in the wreck. Bain was initially cited for carele s driving as a result of his actions. However, the charge was dropped a few months later, weeks before Betts' death. According to multiple reports, teams have been privy to Bain's involvement in the crash for some time. Teams have been aware of this case for a long, long time, and there was a lawsuit a sociated with the case that was settled in Miami. Wallace reported that the police report indicated that Bain was involved in an accident. However, the case was dismi sed in Feb. 2026. Trey Wallace (@TreyWallace) Rueben Bain car crash police report Police crash records indicate that Bain's vehicle, traveling northbound outside of the center lane on I-95 in Miami, collided with a vehicle in center lane. The collision sent Bain's vehicle into a concrete wall, destroying the right portion of the car. Bain's vehicle then careened into the wall once more, collecting the left front of its frame. Air bags were deployed during the incident and Bain was reported to be "apparently normal" at the time of his crash, according to police reports.
