Firing up a new ARPG and hitting that character creation screen can be a bit of a trap — you sit there, overthinking every little detail while the real game waits. In PoE 2 Currency league starts, the same old truth applies: you need something that’s strong out the gate, moves at a decent clip, and works without throwing half your stash into rare gear. If you want to breeze through the campaign without stalling in the mid-acts, pick a build that scales mainly with gem levels. Gear will come later; early power is about the right skills and a solid base.
Big Hits and SurvivabilityFor players who want a straight-up brawler that can take a punch, the Warrior Slam build is looking solid. Sure, melee often feels sluggish in ARPGs, but Path of Exile 2 changes the game — animation canceling and dodge rolls make closing the gap feel snappy. Slap on a big two-hander, grab Sunder (or its new cousin), and start smashing. The appeal here is the built-in toughness; you’re naturally stacking armour and health. That means when you misread a boss telegraph, you’re not instantly splattered. It’s a forgiving style, but still packs enough force to make you grin every time you land a hit.
Speed Over SafetyOn the flip side, if you crave speed and don’t mind occasionally hitting the respawn screen, the Huntress Lightning Arrow archetype is a thrill ride. Bow builds are still glass cannons, and that’s unlikely to change — expect some deaths. But the clear speed? Ludicrous. In open maps and big packs, you’re deleting enemies before they’ve even spotted you. Early progression with this setup is all about chaining or piercing shots; the big single-target damage can wait until you’ve got a few acts under your belt. Stay moving — stopping too long in Path of Exile is basically giving the mobs an open shot.
Low Effort, High PayoffIf you’re after something more hands-off, a Sorceress using Spark or Arc ticks all the boxes. These spells do the hunting for you — Spark’s little bolts ricochet around tight spaces, while Arc lashes out and jumps from foe to foe. Perfect for cramped dungeons or mobs scattered around corners. The best part? As a caster, most of your muscle comes from leveling your gems. Even a simple wand with a touch of spell damage will carry you for ages, so you’re not stuck hunting for expensive upgrades just to stay viable.
Keeping It SimpleThe smartest choice for day one is whatever keeps you logging back in. Don’t overcomplicate it with some ultra-specific crit gimmick unless you’ve got the experience to pull it off. High base damage, decent toughness, and a movement skill that feels natural — that’s the sweet spot. And in those chaotic early days of a league, when trade prices are all over the place, running a build that’s happy on zero budget will save you a lot of stress — and probably a lot of PoE 2 Items cheap farming time too.
